Fructose Consumption and Metabolic Disease

Abstract

Despite constant cutting edge technological advances in Western medicine nearly one-third of all Americans suffer from metabolic disease that will inevitably lead to preventable chronic illness and early death. Metabolic syndrome can be diagnosed when three of the five risk factors are present including abdominal obesity, high triglycerides, low HDL cholesterol, hypertension, and high fasting glucose. There are many culprits to blame in the multi-faceted condition; however, the excessive consumption of processed fructose is the major contributor to these health maladies.
