Abstract

America is a society of quick fixes, immediate gratification, processed foods, toxins, sedentary lifestyles and high stress. These factors, and so much more, play a role in the development of morbid obesity. Out of desperation, many individuals contemplate and follow their physician’s recommendation having some type of gastric bypass/bariatric surgery to reduce the problems with weight management, cholesterol, blood pressure, and other complications of obesity. Individuals who journey down this pathway and the practitioners who treat them must be proactive and thoroughly address the lifelong nutritional challenges incurred by any type of weight loss surgery.
