Patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) refers to the pain originated from the region of patella (kneecap) and femur (thigh bone). It hurts to go up or down stairs, kneel, squat, or sit with the knee bent for long periods of time. Other terms used for the syndrome include patellofemoarl syndrome, runner’s knee, retropatellar pain, anterior knee pain, knee pain syndrome, and chondromalacia patellae. PFPS occurs very common among athletes and non-athletes.
